Friday Report - a Bit to Stitch

Friday Report is a bit late today.....Friday may almost be over here but I know there is plenty of time left in some parts of the world.

I said I was going to stitch, stitch, stitch and that is exactly what I did.

I took Flowerville with me to the sewing group at Frangipani Fabrics and finished stitching it while I was there. Block 2 is stitched!

And then I got to tracing Block 2 of  'A Country Tea Party' and started stitching it that night....once I started stitching these cute teddies, I just couldn't stop.

I enjoyed stitching the ice cream cart...the lettering was done in chain stitch so I am glad I got plenty of practice doing that stitch in Flowerville and I think it looks lovely.

I have been stitching the gorgeous little polka dot dress this evening with its french knots....all stitched in the lovely 'delphinium' variegated Cottage Garden Threads.

I have a linky party at Cath@Home today.....Fun Friday Favourites....I invite you to take a look and link up your favourites too.

Here's a taster of what you will see for my own favourites post.

DBM #7 - A Quilt to Share

Can you believe we have been sharing weekly design board happenings for 7 weeks?

I will be working on the usual things....my fabric arrived from Claudia last week so I will be racing ahead to finish Baby G's quilt.....and then some stitching....and some tracing - teddy bears & baskets....and then, more stitching!

Instead of bombarding you all with the same old pictures, I am going to share some photo's of the quilt that a friend of mine has made.

I have known Kay for a number of years now....we met at a sewing group and I liked her right away.  Kay doesn't blog but she does avidly read a number of blogs, mine included. It turns out that Kay made a quilt with some of the same little birdie fabric that I am using and when she saw the one I was making, decided to email the photo's to share with me. She has kindly let me share them here on Bits 'n Bobs.

Kay went for the soft look....working the little birds into cathedral window blocks....how beautiful is it? Great job Kay!

Thank you for sharing Kay....I know you will be reading this.....I just love your version of 'little birds'!

 And now it's your turn...

DBM #6 - A New Look!

Linky Tool issues have been sorted out, and I have been very busy having fun with various editing Tools, Apps and programmes to create a spanking brand new badge for Design Board Monday.

But I didn't stop there...oh, no! I searched the wonderful world wide web and figured out how to create a Link Up Button Code...and here it is...just copy the code and paste into your blog in HTML mode or onto your side bar. The button will automatically link to Bits 'n Bobs and your job of linking my blog to your post is done.

Bits 'n Bobs

So????? What do you think.....Do you like the new design? I saw the other one on some blogs and it looked very boring and uninspiring!

I have been going nuts playing with all these new Editing Apps that I can get on my new computer.  Amazing how things have changed in the 8 years I was using the old one!

On the sewing front...everything is the same on my Design Board. The extra fabric for Baby G's quilt hasn't arrived yet but I have my fingers crossed for Monday...

Another block has arrived for A Country Tea Party....Yikes! I haven't even traced last months pattern yet...that is not going to plan at all!...

Flowerville is calling out to be finished I only have the little bird on the roof and a few little crosses to stitch....

Talking of little birds...have you seen Jenny Elefantz's Booby Bird....As you are aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Jenny has lovingly & kindly designed this little bird in recognition of all those affected by breast cancer...Thankfully, I don't have breast cancer and I am grateful for that but I remember once being called back for another mammogram and how nervous I was while still trying to show a brave face...I also know women who have had breast cancer and overcome it....and yes, at least 2 who lost the battle.  Head over to Jenny of ELEFANTZ  to find read her story about the Booby Bird and the link for the free Pattern

Now it's your turn to share:

Friday Report - Nada, Nothing, Zilch

For the first time ever, I signed up for FNSI and did absolutely no stitching...Nada, Nothing, Zilch... infact Sweet Fanny Adams!

I would like to say ....
  • I have finished the Baby G quilt but the fabric hasn't arrived yet so nothing happening there.
  • I finished Flowerville...but no, I still have a few more stitches to complete that project.
  • I have traced the next block of A Country Tea Party.....but no! I haven't done that either!

I have....
  • been engrossed in a couple of books that arrived
  • been outside with my camera taking photo's and have written several draft posts for Cath@Home
  • been stalking fb because Baby G has arrived in the World....10 days early! This is my second time as a great aunt and I have loved seeing the photo's of him appear on line. He is sooooo little & cute and important because he will be taking the family name into the future!

Since the Linky Tool is up and active again.....Yippee!

I will....
  • be hosting Design Board Monday here on Bits 'n Bobs
  • be hosting What's for Dinner Wednesday over on Cath@Home
  • be hosting a new Link Up on Cath@Home on Friday for all your Favourite weekly happenings...Fun Friday Favourites...come and check it out!

before I go and organise myself for the day and settle down to read what everyone else was up to at FNSI at Sugarlane Quilts, I thought I should explain my behaviour on last Friday Report...when I mentioned the unmentionable position I was in.

DBM #5 - Claudia to the Rescue

Here is Monday again! and that means DBM...time to assess what is taking priority this week. Have you got a project (or projects) needing attention, then come and join me by linking up with:

I am getting back to Baby G's Quilt this week and nothing else....except perhaps some quiet stitching of an evening.

Baby G's Quilt
I was making great progress with this quilt top and then, oh dear!, it wasn't quite turning out the way I wanted.

I have all the square in a square blocks done and ready to join into units for the rows and I even have some units completed.

And then it dawned on me, I am not going to have NEARLY enough of the baby bird fabric to fill in the spaces.

Of course it doesn't help that I cut the first row of birds at the wrong measurement. Now what's that adage....'measure twice, cut once'...for me it should be 'measure ten, cut once'

Initially, I tried to alter the layout on the design board, which is actually a bath size towel!

But I can't deal with haphazard so thought it best to try and find some more birdies. A quick fb message yesterday to my favourite gal, Claudia, at Quiltessentials to see if I was in luck and she still had some left...Answer: Quite possible...will know for sure Monday am. Just goes to show...1/2m is not quite enough for stash building.

I don't think it will take long for her to send me the fabric so I will do as much as I can which will probably see a few rows completed.

Last minute update: I have just spoken to Claudia, and she is sending out my parcel containing an extra metre of these baby birds. *insert big sigh of relief here*

Now, how about you...what is on your Design Board (metaphorically or otherwise) for this week?

  • link anything that you are working on this week or over the past week....needle and thread is all it takes!
  • Please add a link back to Bits 'n Bobs as part of your post (cut and paste the badge, if you like)
  • Please make the effort to visit other link users and leave them a comment to make their day!
  • Link will be open until Sunday 18/10/15
