and I am not promising that this will last but I was thinking the other day about how much I enjoyed blogging even though it is just a venue for me to waffle on about fluff and stuff...so for now I am jumping back on the blogwagon and see if I can keep up with the pace of things.<br />
<br />
After a full on start to the year and finishing 5 quilt tops by March, I fell off 'that' bandwagon rather hard....whether it was the colder weather setting in, or the fact that I am STILLwaiting for my house to get built (3 years and counting) or just a general malaise....probably a little of each. Long story short: I haven't had much inclination to sew.<br />
<br />
But Knitting.....now that's a whole other ballgame!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
I just got this sudden urge to knit....it was an itch that just had to be scratched....Firstly, I tried my hand at knitting a little cardie jacket for my great-niece who just moved to England with her parents. I really enjoyed the pattern but the sleeves were a little tricky so I decided maybe another two little cardies might help me perfect the underarm fiasco.....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Since I haven't touched any knitting needles for almost 30 years, I had a few techniques to conquer so I forgot about the countless other Pinterest finds to knit jumpers and concentrated on something a bit more manageable. Scarves and cowls and blankets.<br />
<br />
This was my first big project....a big chunky blanket which I knitted out of some rather awful acrylic stuff in my stash box. The pattern is lovely and I plan to knit it again in a nicer yarn sometime soon. The pattern is called the <a href="https://www.lovecrafts.com/en-au/p/the-boulevard-blanket-knitting-pattern-by-fifty-four-ten-studio" target="_blank">Boulevard Blanket</a>. So easy to knit and the pattern is free*. I discovered circular knitting needles for this project as it is necessary to hold all the stitches needed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0DPQWXkaJuQ/XT1Fv9KODrI/AAAAAAAASQQ/NrPfFWdci64TtFPQl8nyz-K2KCv-qydlwCEwYBhgL/s1600/collage1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="813" data-original-width="1600" height="324" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0DPQWXkaJuQ/XT1Fv9KODrI/AAAAAAAASQQ/NrPfFWdci64TtFPQl8nyz-K2KCv-qydlwCEwYBhgL/s640/collage1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
This was a big project so I interspersed it with a couple of smaller projects. A triangular scarf which helped me decipher the <a href="https://alfaknits.wordpress.com/2015/08/03/how-to-m1l-and-m1r-and-to-never-forget-which-is-which/" target="_blank">M1L and M1R</a> technique of increasing the stitiches. The scarf was knitted with some really cheap acrylic yarn that I picked up in a $2 Shop and it is something I will probably never wear....but it was an interesting learning curve.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Oggyxv_orRo/XT1IW0oxWYI/AAAAAAAASRA/NPSoESw4jhUhV0nmUaQAxLmWokNXW7MdgCLcBGAs/s1600/67276400_10218268972649870_5540871608454873088_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="996" data-original-width="1000" height="318" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Oggyxv_orRo/XT1IW0oxWYI/AAAAAAAASRA/NPSoESw4jhUhV0nmUaQAxLmWokNXW7MdgCLcBGAs/s320/67276400_10218268972649870_5540871608454873088_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I'm sure it's obvious but my knitted scarf is the pinky creation</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Next up was the <a href="https://oceanwavesquilts.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/02/potato-chip-scarf.html" target="_blank">Potato Chip Scarf</a> and here I picked up on how to do <a href="https://www.purlsoho.com/create/short-rows-wrap-turn/" target="_blank">short rows</a>. There was so much unraveling of this project and starting over but eventually I got the hang of it and produced something that looked like the picture....I have seen some wonderful examples of this scarf so would like to give it a go in another type of yarn (I originally used a cotton blend) I have a few free* versions of this pattern on my Pinterest Board called <a href="https://www.pinterest.com.au/cathquilts/yarn/" target="_blank">Yarn</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fPCqViK-W-o/XT1ICKZj1eI/AAAAAAAASQ4/X3jWP_vTv54B3oFtaae0b0WGePMIUqiFACEwYBhgL/s1600/iPiccy-collage4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="813" data-original-width="1600" height="324" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fPCqViK-W-o/XT1ICKZj1eI/AAAAAAAASQ4/X3jWP_vTv54B3oFtaae0b0WGePMIUqiFACEwYBhgL/s640/iPiccy-collage4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My first cowl was this<a href="http://www.ballstothewallsknits.com/2016/08/ridge-and-furrow-cowl.html" target="_blank"> Ridge and Furrow</a> cowl which is a free* pattern.....I struggled with the circular needles at first as I didn't know how the join the circle....a quick search on Pinterest and I had it all sussed out. I love this cowl and am immensely proud of my efforts. I realised while knitting this project that I really enjoy knitting patterns.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gL4BnunAsfc/XT1ICbdTxHI/AAAAAAAASQ0/HleqaI7Xe8QEcW5eYErHoDuavxuZFBwygCEwYBhgL/s1600/iPiccy-collage3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="813" data-original-width="1600" height="324" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gL4BnunAsfc/XT1ICbdTxHI/AAAAAAAASQ0/HleqaI7Xe8QEcW5eYErHoDuavxuZFBwygCEwYBhgL/s640/iPiccy-collage3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The bug had bitten deep and the next project to meet my needles was this <a href="https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2015/03/20/reversible-rivulet-scarf/" target="_blank">Reversible Rivulet Scarf</a> a free* pattern from Purl Soho. This project took me several weeks as it was all knitted into the back of the stitch, ie. the reversible part, it took my brain a while to emulate and I also had to polish up on my cable stitch which kept going array forcing me to "unknit" or simply pull the stitches back a few rows.Who knew a scarf could take so long to knit?! That being said, I would do this one again!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G-Del7x_HDI/XT1IDfqWYlI/AAAAAAAASQ4/Kiiw76zfktAyFoGy4KrAmTp6Uc4x3LEPACEwYBhgL/s1600/iPiccy-collage5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="538" data-original-width="1600" height="214" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G-Del7x_HDI/XT1IDfqWYlI/AAAAAAAASQ4/Kiiw76zfktAyFoGy4KrAmTp6Uc4x3LEPACEwYBhgL/s640/iPiccy-collage5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
That brings me to this current week.....Yes, I still want to knit and if I'm not knitting, I am seeking out patterns on Pinterest. Early this week I decided to unleash the Mohair (well, it's 50% Mohair and 50% Acrylic) and knit an <a href="https://www.allfreeknitting.com/Knit-Scarves/Wonderful-One-Row-Lace-Scarf" target="_blank">easy lacy scarf</a>. Yikes! Fingering Mohair (blend) is tricky. It kept getting snagged on itself and I ended up having to discard quite a bit of it when the pattern went off course and I couldn't unravel the stitches. My second go was more successful although I can see a big hole somewhere half way up the work. I think I can fix that later. I am actually going to seam the two edges to make a cowl.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uoscckr0Nbg/XT1IENQxVZI/AAAAAAAASQ8/OlIH0amYbtQnR5obl6bIDJ6ssuDsK55eQCEwYBhgL/s1600/iPiccy-collage6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="639" data-original-width="1266" height="322" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uoscckr0Nbg/XT1IENQxVZI/AAAAAAAASQ8/OlIH0amYbtQnR5obl6bIDJ6ssuDsK55eQCEwYBhgL/s640/iPiccy-collage6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Please note that free* denotes that patterns are free at time of this post being published.<br />
<br />
If you have read this far, then thank you so much for passing by.....and I look forward to journalling my next project.....the only question is:<br />
Will it be knitted, stitched or sewn!<br />

<br />
Leaving January behind and heading for a February catch up for my APQ UFO Challenge. It's so exciting when you have achieved your finish and you are just waiting for the next number to be posted. The only problem is that the 1st of the month arrives much earlier in Australia than it does anywhere else so I just have to be patient.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2APVXWzx7d0/WbtYsSWXj3I/AAAAAAAAQuM/JzswHJORw-kE-vtK4zbPhP6OYyrmem2jQCEwYBhgL/s1600/aqpfebresolution.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="858" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2APVXWzx7d0/WbtYsSWXj3I/AAAAAAAAQuM/JzswHJORw-kE-vtK4zbPhP6OYyrmem2jQCEwYBhgL/s320/aqpfebresolution.jpg" width="286" /></a></div>
At last the new number was posted.....#8....on my list, it was Sashiko Butterflies...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9R7yVhxfcHs/WbtcOsjyE0I/AAAAAAAAQuU/BEcNTMqnTSIaUXwh-JCY33xqNt1IJ5kUQCEwYBhgL/s1600/Sashiko%2B%2526%2BButterflies.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1136" data-original-width="1600" height="454" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9R7yVhxfcHs/WbtcOsjyE0I/AAAAAAAAQuU/BEcNTMqnTSIaUXwh-JCY33xqNt1IJ5kUQCEwYBhgL/s640/Sashiko%2B%2526%2BButterflies.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This project was not long a UFO....infact I had bought the project as a kit from Sylvia Pippen Designs in the US a couple of months before I went overseas and it only took me a week or so to do the Sashiko stitches....all that was left, was to add the appliqued butterflies. With the trip ahead, I decided to put it away....until I joined with the UFO challenge. I am glad it got the call up early on as the speed with which I got it done boosted my confidence that I could fulfill this challenge.<br />
<br />
I was terrified to cut up the small pieces of marbled fabrics for the applique wings but it's just best to take the plunge or it will never get done. I tried to plan where to place the wing template to make the most of the patterns in the fabric although the first one (the pink one in front) wasn't so wonderful.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dXnlJXfqe2Y/WbtYmAvgBcI/AAAAAAAAQuM/Sh09ffXZTS47kUdt31Khu8k3SReMrl8WwCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_1720.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1281" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dXnlJXfqe2Y/WbtYmAvgBcI/AAAAAAAAQuM/Sh09ffXZTS47kUdt31Khu8k3SReMrl8WwCEwYBhgL/s640/IMG_1720.JPG" width="512" /></a></div>
<br />
However, I learnt from it and was happy with how the others turned out....I used a needleturn method to do the wings but the little bodies were too tiny and I ended up blanket stitching them on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mjDS1JVN6b4/WbtYryHUxBI/AAAAAAAAQuM/3lMbtERpHl0eIA21DjsWZQkhGl3CBiT7QCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_1729.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mjDS1JVN6b4/WbtYryHUxBI/AAAAAAAAQuM/3lMbtERpHl0eIA21DjsWZQkhGl3CBiT7QCEwYBhgL/s640/IMG_1729.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Then it was just a case of adding the narrow border and then another indigo border and it is ready to quilt....I will probably do it by hand.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nns_fby3smg/WbtYsqijU2I/AAAAAAAAQuM/yKoOfvk3SI0N7jStT3C74MzW-Pd8x2vLgCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_2121.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nns_fby3smg/WbtYsqijU2I/AAAAAAAAQuM/yKoOfvk3SI0N7jStT3C74MzW-Pd8x2vLgCEwYBhgL/s640/IMG_2121.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It was around this time that I also decided to start on another UFO...one that wasn't on my list...one that had been languishing in the cupboard for at least 10 years. I decided to make it my long term UFO and I work on it at night when I don't have any other hand stitching to do.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qBvl-pJ8x8c/Wbti0GzicgI/AAAAAAAAQuk/kgNs04ikWNk03hJ9QduAKbmveMZueoodQCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_3217.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qBvl-pJ8x8c/Wbti0GzicgI/AAAAAAAAQuk/kgNs04ikWNk03hJ9QduAKbmveMZueoodQCEwYBhgL/s640/IMG_3217.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
It is a Cross Stitch project and it is a long term UFO....I had only done a small part of it when I lost interest in it many years ago...It is called Tulip Trio although they do remind me more of Peonies. Here was my first progress photo. There is a long way to go but you will be surprised if you saw it today.....I have done so much.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OK4-j4-oUeY/Wbti1tAKmgI/AAAAAAAAQus/-sSRc1rDIDoiJtc5SDw7cReGRfvvpOQlQCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_3216.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OK4-j4-oUeY/Wbti1tAKmgI/AAAAAAAAQus/-sSRc1rDIDoiJtc5SDw7cReGRfvvpOQlQCEwYBhgL/s640/IMG_3216.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Till next time....<br />

To say I have been busy would be the understatement of the year! What with numerous medical appointments to chauffeur my mum to, trying to cope with the stresses of planning a house, catching up on my UFO's just to name a few, blogging has fallen way, way to the bottom of the priority list.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-84gaKiqBHJw/Wbi6oxoI4wI/AAAAAAAAQro/RUP-IF3rofIsedGFKKyASCg1YQul4NCFgCLcBGAs/s1600/ed5be63ffdb334dec8561363b37cf00e--the-inspiration-positive-words.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="727" data-original-width="584" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-84gaKiqBHJw/Wbi6oxoI4wI/AAAAAAAAQro/RUP-IF3rofIsedGFKKyASCg1YQul4NCFgCLcBGAs/s320/ed5be63ffdb334dec8561363b37cf00e--the-inspiration-positive-words.jpg" width="257" /></a></div>
I am going to try really hard to change that.....even if it is just baby steps.....from now on and take my chance to blog at least once a week....lets see how that goes.<br />
<br />
I have, however, taken to Instagram. At first I couldn't see what all the fuss was about but I find it a much better platform than Facebook which I have struggled to link up to my blog for awhile now. Anyhow, I post pictures on Instagram just about everyday and as well as my current sewing projects, there are also photo's of plants I am growing, scenes from our valley, and all my furbabies...if you are on instagram....seek me out, I am cathxxm......and I am already following a few of you...<br />

Back to why I am here today.....back in the wayback, when I last posted<a href="http://cathquilts.blogspot.com.au/2017/01/bits-n-bobs-where-have-you-been.html" target="_blank"> HERE</a> I was telling you about the UFO Challenge I was undertaking through the All People Quilt Magazine. Even though this was some months ago now, I am pleased to report that I managed to finish my January's UFO right on time......well at least to a flimsy....which is what I was aiming for! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xJz96Na2VnA/Wbi2Ud8qinI/AAAAAAAAQrA/-gCrc2qZGG8daS6izDuKgTd2B-w4H9m6wCLcBGAs/s1600/pic1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="960" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xJz96Na2VnA/Wbi2Ud8qinI/AAAAAAAAQrA/-gCrc2qZGG8daS6izDuKgTd2B-w4H9m6wCLcBGAs/s640/pic1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I started off the month with that house centre block panel and the pink border but I still needed to finish the floral stitched border on the sides......<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6YTeDrwyqXA/Wbi3kQqQ5PI/AAAAAAAAQrM/faRqjEdCqbsh_avbWyv7eGv02dG_B5BbgCLcBGAs/s1600/pic3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="960" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6YTeDrwyqXA/Wbi3kQqQ5PI/AAAAAAAAQrM/faRqjEdCqbsh_avbWyv7eGv02dG_B5BbgCLcBGAs/s640/pic3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After that, It didn't take very long at all and I pieced it all together quite quickly<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZT6SoslNkpA/Wbi31KyNxqI/AAAAAAAAQrQ/dMykkEbalXgeEWBacYoUHxAvvA-q5GK8ACLcBGAs/s1600/pic6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="958" data-original-width="960" height="638" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZT6SoslNkpA/Wbi31KyNxqI/AAAAAAAAQrQ/dMykkEbalXgeEWBacYoUHxAvvA-q5GK8ACLcBGAs/s640/pic6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
My favourite section of this whole quilt was stitching the fence and the garden at the lower end of the quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mMe2jiIF84Y/Wbi4EtFMZQI/AAAAAAAAQrU/2JeRUGN62D8ymRcX_-Dth91bEguZ82ENgCLcBGAs/s1600/pic4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="958" data-original-width="960" height="638" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mMe2jiIF84Y/Wbi4EtFMZQI/AAAAAAAAQrU/2JeRUGN62D8ymRcX_-Dth91bEguZ82ENgCLcBGAs/s640/pic4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So now it is ready and waiting to be quilted but that will have to wait until a later date.....in the meantime I have more tops that have been making progress......I can't wait to show you so please drop by again and take a look at the gorgeous butterfly mini that I completed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jYAq03hg8NU/Wbi4rPvdGFI/AAAAAAAAQrc/JE_ka-_-qkEt_qF-yjUxSEgPL3K43o8jgCLcBGAs/s1600/pic2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="774" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jYAq03hg8NU/Wbi4rPvdGFI/AAAAAAAAQrc/JE_ka-_-qkEt_qF-yjUxSEgPL3K43o8jgCLcBGAs/s640/pic2.jpg" width="516" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
And so I will sign off for now.....see you next time,<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qycJODU7hIM/WHmllHY5TAI/AAAAAAAAQow/QwGXNKfrWuIGTusaFD4ja8jiE-WnyQHtACLcB/s1600/DSC07185.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qycJODU7hIM/WHmllHY5TAI/AAAAAAAAQow/QwGXNKfrWuIGTusaFD4ja8jiE-WnyQHtACLcB/s400/DSC07185.JPG" width="265" /></a></div>
Well, not exactly.....I went to London to help my mother get her tourist visa so she could come to live with me here in Australia.....and it took THREE MONTHS! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vOis9m-611c/WHmejA7Si4I/AAAAAAAAQoU/SqarclTJMlQKO1-pMbR0ejcuPnL_pNT3QCEw/s1600/2017%2Bchallenge%2B4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vOis9m-611c/WHmejA7Si4I/AAAAAAAAQoU/SqarclTJMlQKO1-pMbR0ejcuPnL_pNT3QCEw/s320/2017%2Bchallenge%2B4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I took three whole months.....but I am back now and after a stressful settling in period, which is still happening, she has her Bridging Visa to stay indefinitely while her Permanent Visa is being processed. It is not without its difficulties....one is the lack of Medicare. Mums medical and medications in the UK were paid for by the NHS but here, and without a Medicare card, she has to pay full price for her doctor visits and medications.....on the plus side, her accommodation is now<br />
basically free instead of the £4000,00/month she was being charged at her care home. OUCH! Right?<br />
<br />
So now you know why I have been very quiet here on Bits 'n Bobs......since June 2016, I believe, so I am most likely writing this all to myself atm.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rAW5TbMx-sg/WHmeiwkgT0I/AAAAAAAAQoQ/DWu2SA3ZO5UwVHSTpTOctWh8G3g9jswtwCEw/s1600/2017%2Bchallenge%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rAW5TbMx-sg/WHmeiwkgT0I/AAAAAAAAQoQ/DWu2SA3ZO5UwVHSTpTOctWh8G3g9jswtwCEw/s400/2017%2Bchallenge%2B3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
On the sewing front.....I went to a couple of interesting quilting type events in South West London, found some gorgeous quilt shops, bought some divine fabric and patterns which no doubt will make it onto the page at some point but right now I am just getting the feel for writing again....It's been way too long.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L5dWafWtr_E/WHmeiTcZ-ZI/AAAAAAAAQoI/F3lbl9FegQcGyTexHzkUghVCWIYFQGRFgCEw/s1600/2017%2Bchallenge%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L5dWafWtr_E/WHmeiTcZ-ZI/AAAAAAAAQoI/F3lbl9FegQcGyTexHzkUghVCWIYFQGRFgCEw/s400/2017%2Bchallenge%2B1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Now back at home, I have joined up with a couple of 2017 UFO Challenge Groups on Facebook and Instagram which should keep me on track to finish off a few items just languishing in my sewing room.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QxzB6a1zgrM/WHmghVU6axI/AAAAAAAAQog/9KM0TNsHIx06998dPSoID-tSh-mTdj7YwCEw/s1600/UFO%2BChallenge%2B2017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QxzB6a1zgrM/WHmghVU6axI/AAAAAAAAQog/9KM0TNsHIx06998dPSoID-tSh-mTdj7YwCEw/s400/UFO%2BChallenge%2B2017.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Originally, I found this challenge via Instagram from allpeoplequilt ( #2017ufochallenge, #apqresolution) but when trying to find the facebook group at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/192413897829704/" target="_blank">American P&Q UFO Challenge 2017</a> I accidentally joined a group called <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/913851935310452/" target="_blank">2017 UFO Challenge</a> but that's ok because it turns out they are such a lovely group operating in Australia so I am sticking with both. Following with the rules of APQ, I wrote out a list and the corresponding number issued for January 2017 was No. 6.<br />
<br />
My No. 6 is The Edwardian House by Robyn Allen Waters. I wrote about it <a href="http://cathquilts.blogspot.com.au/2014/04/building-house.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> along with pictures of my progress. Since then I have stitched the top and bottom borders and I have to confess, the two side borders appeared a little boring to me so I took up something else......<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fllfAlxX8Bo/WHmei4eW97I/AAAAAAAAQoM/3lD1H4-nnqYHdngS1vO4dxTAqUDJI_7hQCEw/s1600/2017%2Bchallenge%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fllfAlxX8Bo/WHmei4eW97I/AAAAAAAAQoM/3lD1H4-nnqYHdngS1vO4dxTAqUDJI_7hQCEw/s400/2017%2Bchallenge%2B2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So where am I now? Well I have shown the progress in the photo's added to this post.....two more motifs to stitch before I get started on the second side border.<br />
<br />

I am really slacking off with Design Board Monday but as to why will be revealed next week.....WARNING: it may not be good news for DBM!<br />
<br />
Last time I posted I showed a whole lot of projects that I was working on for the month of June.....so far I have completed the needleturn stitching on "<i><b>Marmalade</b></i>", completed stitching the baskets for "<b><i>Brookfield</i></b>", Blanket stitched most of the design for "<i><b>Spring Bouquet</b></i>"....and...stitched the sashiko stitches for "<i><b>Sashiko and Butterflies</b></i>"....that's a lot of stitching....for me!<br />

It didn't end there because this past weekend I was fortunate enough to partake in a Stitching Day, organised by Leonie Bateman of <a href="http://www.thequiltedcrow.com.au/">The Quilted Crow</a>. The "<i><b>Mid Winter Gathering</b></i>" was held in the Hobart suburb of Lindisfarne and Leonie set up in a lovely old church community hall. She had her beautiful quilts on display and also had a pop-up shop available to anyone wanting to call in. It was just the weather for it too as you can see from this dodgy pic I took of Mt Wellington the day before.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RVWWlk32ZqI/V3CYkmGtswI/AAAAAAAAQl0/TyOtoYV9HgYVEftDSHcb1T3V18WkDMHZgCKgB/s1600/MID%2BWINTER.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RVWWlk32ZqI/V3CYkmGtswI/AAAAAAAAQl0/TyOtoYV9HgYVEftDSHcb1T3V18WkDMHZgCKgB/s640/MID%2BWINTER.png" width="640" /></a></div>
We all got a gift on arriving. Four free patterns, all designed by Leonie and a pattern kit for a gorgeous little wheat bag which we all got to work on for the day with Leonie to instruct every step and give us hints along the way.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HgEtpXVTWu8/V3CYmQaY19I/AAAAAAAAQlU/YachZd-Pe5g__4zKOQbPepdJW4EleShcgCKgB/s1600/GATHERING%2BKIT.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="418" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HgEtpXVTWu8/V3CYmQaY19I/AAAAAAAAQlU/YachZd-Pe5g__4zKOQbPepdJW4EleShcgCKgB/s640/GATHERING%2BKIT.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-frmPtmtcI_s/V3CYv-fHr3I/AAAAAAAAQls/X_TM4gngbSY-El4AKJvJAe-IDgDgJ6bAQCKgB/s1600/STITCHING.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="466" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-frmPtmtcI_s/V3CYv-fHr3I/AAAAAAAAQls/X_TM4gngbSY-El4AKJvJAe-IDgDgJ6bAQCKgB/s640/STITCHING.png" width="640" /></a></div>
We stopped work for a scrumptious lunch and a wonderful "ooh & aah" show-and-tell session from some very talented ladies attending the Gathering.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EYL77wqVu64/V3CYkH1U2YI/AAAAAAAAQl0/-edLGosaIO8ZlNErcny2jtSUIBSRkPkKQCKgB/s1600/LUNCH.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EYL77wqVu64/V3CYkH1U2YI/AAAAAAAAQl0/-edLGosaIO8ZlNErcny2jtSUIBSRkPkKQCKgB/s640/LUNCH.png" width="640" /></a></div>
The afternoon was spent stitching some more......I was sat with three familiar faces from my Friday Post Office group but also met some lovely new faces and even a "gentleman quilter" sharing my table! I also stopped to chat to a couple of ladies from my neck of the woods and found out where they meet up to sew once a month.....I have plans to tag along and join them at some stage.<br />
<br />
There was no way I was coming home without giving my credit card a workout......so I purchased a couple of fabric kits to accompany two of the gifted patterns and purchased another one of Leonie's pattern designs that I just loved.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jND2LR_YuVA/V3CYsqoYd4I/AAAAAAAAQlk/j4nEBw2hIA4GpXmbaq7Emqam922qCyNMwCKgB/s1600/POPUPSHOP.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jND2LR_YuVA/V3CYsqoYd4I/AAAAAAAAQlk/j4nEBw2hIA4GpXmbaq7Emqam922qCyNMwCKgB/s640/POPUPSHOP.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And now that all important question? </div>

While the fierceness of the rain has diminished, we have had enough rain to make our two top dams overflow creating a river through the fields between dams and our smaller and lowest dam is overflowing into the creek...a very swollen creek. We are not in any danger here but I believe other places in Tasmania have not fared so well. This makes it all perfect weather for ducks.....although, I haven't seen any about! but as for me....I have lots on the go to keep me in the warm and dry.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uQvJdlNdad8/V1TuKsMXOkI/AAAAAAAAQj8/4WdU3YxPShw_QeeBUlXeLnhJgfkTVwuygCLcB/s1600/june%2Bflood.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uQvJdlNdad8/V1TuKsMXOkI/AAAAAAAAQj8/4WdU3YxPShw_QeeBUlXeLnhJgfkTVwuygCLcB/s640/june%2Bflood.jpeg" width="606" /></a></div>
<br />
With the <b><i>Flowerville</i></b> stitching complete and only one block left on <b><i>A Country Tea Party</i></b>, it was time to turn my thoughts to what will follow. Oh my, the choices! Last week I showed you one BOM kit that I decided to start and I prepped block one for that. It is called <b><i>Marmalade</i></b> by Sue Daley. I am doing all the applique bit with needleturn.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-82ct0kv76AA/V1TyETUwTjI/AAAAAAAAQkc/qxzL9946WcgEHXGyvqTltyMnOPbEt5uvACKgB/s1600/block%2B1%2Bmarmalade.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-82ct0kv76AA/V1TyETUwTjI/AAAAAAAAQkc/qxzL9946WcgEHXGyvqTltyMnOPbEt5uvACKgB/s640/block%2B1%2Bmarmalade.jpeg" width="442" /></a></div>
<br />
I bought this kit for my birthday a couple of years ago and then I remembered one I had bought for my birthday a year earlier....maybe it was time to get started on that too! So I prepped block one for <b><i>Spring Bouquet</i></b>. One thing I love about this kit is that all the shapes are pre-cut so it is just a case of placing them on the background, ironing down.....and then.....sew! I am doing this one in blanketstitch by hand.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-69CcBPWfT6k/V1TyDUVcRBI/AAAAAAAAQkU/qXtPEWARa3U5q2t2ZPWxEq3Ob9zQJGKewCKgB/s1600/block%2B1%2Bspring%2Bbloom.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="542" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-69CcBPWfT6k/V1TyDUVcRBI/AAAAAAAAQkU/qXtPEWARa3U5q2t2ZPWxEq3Ob9zQJGKewCKgB/s640/block%2B1%2Bspring%2Bbloom.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I also prepped another month's worth of blocks for <i><b>Brookfield</b></i> by Leonie Bateman. Leonie is hosting a <b>Mid Winter Gathering</b>...stitching day this month which I really want to attend.....<a href="http://leoniebatemandesigns.typepad.com/the_quilted_crow_girls/2016/06/a-mid-winter-gathering-.html">CLICK HERE</a> to find out more.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dgvMrKQxHjA/V1T063dzixI/AAAAAAAAQko/ulMQoYcUULcdl9XxkyEUb9UWWsRYlQQrwCLcB/s1600/Brookfield%2Bmonth%2B5.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="392" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dgvMrKQxHjA/V1T063dzixI/AAAAAAAAQko/ulMQoYcUULcdl9XxkyEUb9UWWsRYlQQrwCLcB/s640/Brookfield%2Bmonth%2B5.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And on top of that, I received a parcel in the mail......I always said I would never get on the Sashiko bandwagon....it never appealed...until......I saw this!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dy0aR6joo_Q/V1T2XUiS7FI/AAAAAAAAQk0/nEkHQm-HsUQTPk7ZZInMbzPsI9YqURlwgCLcB/s1600/Sashiko%2B%2526%2BButterflies.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="454" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dy0aR6joo_Q/V1T2XUiS7FI/AAAAAAAAQk0/nEkHQm-HsUQTPk7ZZInMbzPsI9YqURlwgCLcB/s640/Sashiko%2B%2526%2BButterflies.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I saw it on Pinterest and just fell in love so ordered it directly from Sylvia Pippen Designs in the US. It is called <i><b>Sashiko & Butterflies</b></i>. It was a very reasonable price for the kit considering the USD/AUD currency rate at the moment.<br />
<br />
So as you can see, it may be Weather for Ducks outdoors but indoors it is Weather for Stitching!<br />
<br />
How are you coping with the weather where you live.....is it sunny, windy, raining??<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p6e23U5VDso/V0vn9lTvBAI/AAAAAAAAQjw/enFhljPEJuEOjvztwsA24mma0I6QNcRRQCKgB/s1600/DSC08158.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p6e23U5VDso/V0vn9lTvBAI/AAAAAAAAQjw/enFhljPEJuEOjvztwsA24mma0I6QNcRRQCKgB/s640/DSC08158.JPG" width="452" /></a></div>
<br />
I am nearing the end of stitching Flowerville and so I have been looking at my Projects-in-Waiting and I have just about decided on starting this Sue Daley BOM kit that I bought a couple of years ago.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xo0tIDb4SOU/V0vn9212iyI/AAAAAAAAQjw/py3d2loV9y0pbTHShEXC_hZ7M22suQVHgCKgB/s1600/DSC08157.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xo0tIDb4SOU/V0vn9212iyI/AAAAAAAAQjw/py3d2loV9y0pbTHShEXC_hZ7M22suQVHgCKgB/s640/DSC08157.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I also picked up the frames that I had on Layby last Friday and so I have been playing with these greeting cards that I collected on my UK trip. They are from The Country Set by Wrensdale Designs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5JFhxLj8ujE/V0vn8ts916I/AAAAAAAAQjw/VljHcS6GN28JRVQBnOppUHYYc9Egx66XACKgB/s1600/DSC08156.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5JFhxLj8ujE/V0vn8ts916I/AAAAAAAAQjw/VljHcS6GN28JRVQBnOppUHYYc9Egx66XACKgB/s640/DSC08156.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I am framing them the same way as I did <a href="http://cathquilts.blogspot.com.au/2016/03/pinspiration-from-high-street.html">these ones</a> but using a cranberry textured cardstock as a frame. I will show you how they turned out sometime soon.<br />
<br />
Have a terrific week and keep your needles threaded!!!<br />

</div>
I am taking a break on my Cath@Home blog and to be truthful, I had thought I would do the same here....some days the words just flow and some days I can't string a simple sentence together. Yesterday, for what was to be my last post for awhile, I enjoyed the process and creating the photo collages...so I will see how I go for a bit longer but just so you know....a forced break is coming.<br />
<br />
While on a break, It was my intention to spend more time in the kitchen and sewing room.....but just look at the sewing room. <b>You can CLICK on the pictures to enlarge them</b>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JxAYyKVX6ys/Vzp3jyO1TPI/AAAAAAAAQhw/Mrl8c9HkJRY_cEhMBAcCvk8dZiisIrZOwCLcB/s1600/messy%2Broom.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="404" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JxAYyKVX6ys/Vzp3jyO1TPI/AAAAAAAAQhw/Mrl8c9HkJRY_cEhMBAcCvk8dZiisIrZOwCLcB/s640/messy%2Broom.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This tidy up came as a result of running out of a particular colour of embroidery thread. I won't be in town till Friday and so went searching among my other stitcheries to see if the same colour was there....then I realised that a couple of stitcheries were missing and I couldn't find my floss boxes. I went searching in our storage shed and found at least one box in storage that had been water damaged (fortunately it only contained fabric scraps) so I went into overdrive to unpack the remaining boxes. Trying to get everything to fit into my diminished sewing space meant some serious re-organising. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6PveLqtG14w/VzpkIxkJ6GI/AAAAAAAAQhg/DyOoA_sfx28u6EnZ_TMEguSZzkHDRX1egCLcB/s1600/organised.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="278" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6PveLqtG14w/VzpkIxkJ6GI/AAAAAAAAQhg/DyOoA_sfx28u6EnZ_TMEguSZzkHDRX1egCLcB/s640/organised.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Firstly, I decided to add further top of shelf surface space by putting my wool stash into waste paper baskets which I hung on the wall. Then I had room for my everyday tools (scissors/rotary cutters and markers), my rulers are in one spot and some patterns are also within easy reach and on view.....I had forgotten about quite a few of them.....I filled up my empty basket storage with even more wool and used one of my kit baskets for WIPs....this is all next to the cutting table so within very easy reach. <br />
<br />

<br />
One problem I have is not enough shelving.....I bought two white 'bakers shelves' last month. They were intended as shelving for my potting shed. One is outdoors atm as a plant stand and since I have a really large sewing table....I stood this one on it in the corner to hold all my stitchery and applique BOM's...all in their own project box....On the top shelf is a box of threads, 2 boxes of cross stitch Aida scraps and below that a place that my embroidery hoops can call their own. Opposite all this, I have used the two top shelves of another basket unit to hold boxes of quilt UFO's....just so they are not out of sight, out of mind. I have used the same size/shape of storage box as much as possible to create a sense of neatness and order....those plastic food storage boxes are so affordable at dollar stores.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nMDQto-aAoI/VzqLDe6LfEI/AAAAAAAAQi8/BNpRsm4hFT0Mt3iu-AUVge8N2T0iDd49wCLcB/s1600/bom%2Bwall.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="452" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nMDQto-aAoI/VzqLDe6LfEI/AAAAAAAAQi8/BNpRsm4hFT0Mt3iu-AUVge8N2T0iDd49wCLcB/s640/bom%2Bwall.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I did find those missing stitcheries and embroidery threads....Bric-a-Brac is also on my BOM progress wall now. I think I might have to add a few more hooks to this wall for the other BOM's that need finishing.<br />
I still have a whole lot of fabric to sort and pack into my glass fronted cabinet and my bookcase needs an organisation overhaul. Storage space is at a premium so I have commandeered a couple of bookcase shelves in the farmers study....and there are still a couple of containers still on my desk that will go there.....but just look at the sewing space now....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WaS7Noij-rY/VzqFxX_ygEI/AAAAAAAAQik/wmtq7PH9K9kuiVdR5lB_0e5YkSAR4bbFACKgB/s1600/clean%2Broom.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="490" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WaS7Noij-rY/VzqFxX_ygEI/AAAAAAAAQik/wmtq7PH9K9kuiVdR5lB_0e5YkSAR4bbFACKgB/s640/clean%2Broom.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Much better, more inviting and just as well.....there is some sewing I need to get done.<br />
<br />

I do need to show off my little support buddy while I was busy....although she did get under foot....just a tad!<br />

I thought about asking the check out person if it was a public holiday but we were talking marmalade and it slipped my mind. On the drive home I wondered about it again since the Doctors Surgery was obviously closed as well. My farmer knows all these things so I posed the question to him when I was unpacking the groceries.......his reply.....it's Sunday dear!! Oh Duh!! Well, thank goodness for that as I hadn't even given Design Board Monday a thought yet....but I couldn't shake that Monday feeling for the rest of the day.<br />
<br />
I have made progress on my stitcheries. <i><b>Flowerville</b></i>, Block 8 is done and dusted....still waiting for the last block. <i><b>A Country Tea Party</b></i> is well underway and I finished the two little daisies on Block 6 and then started on Block 7.<br />
<br />

<br />
If I had posted this earlier like I had planned, you would of missed the fabrics that arrived in the mail today......such lovely Tilda Fabrics with block 10 of A Country Tea Party. I may have complained about the stitchery fabric being a tad too small but I love how each fabric is labelled according to the pattern....no chance of confusion for me.<br />

And now to the title of this week's post....Have you met Val from Val's Quilting Studio?? I am quite a fan of Val's blog and I was tickled pink when she linked up to Design Board Monday last week. She has an idea for a fabulous swap
that she is putting together. If you missed her post and would like to join it or would like to just meet Val, click the pic below to read how the swap works.<br />

If it wasn't Mother's Day in your part of the world (UK) then I hope you got to spend the day doing something enjoyable....maybe stitching!<br />
<br />
I was so lucky to have one of my children down in Tassie for a weekend visit and we spent the afternoon walking through a beautiful Tasmanian Forest environment taking photo's of some amazing sights...I will be sharing those pics on Cath@Home this week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Here at Bits 'n Bobs... I managed to do some stitching since the boy and my farmer went hiking on Mt Wellington on Saturday. I put a huge dint into Block 6 of A Country Tea Party while they were off. This morning, all I have left to complete this block is two daisies that need stitching, near the wagon.<br />

Some of my favourite bits to stitch were the bees....the little flowers in the grass and miss Teddy<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yBuguwx6Cvc/VyloTZ6X2QI/AAAAAAAAQbo/H-6Dy2uiu2kxA1UDVXws3a1i3JJxZeIZgCLcB/s1600/DSC07980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yBuguwx6Cvc/VyloTZ6X2QI/AAAAAAAAQbo/H-6Dy2uiu2kxA1UDVXws3a1i3JJxZeIZgCLcB/s640/DSC07980.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
One of the reasons I procrastinate over ACTP is that I have to do more work and trace the design onto the supplied fabric......it's time consuming, awkward due to a design flaw with my light box (I should write to them about that!) and makes my hand ache badly (an issue I have with my right arm) but worst of all...<b>the # 1</b> problem I am having is that the quilt shop handling the BOM does not supply enough fabric for the stitching. I understand this is a way of saving money but it doesn't help me!! Have a look at this ....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pH_HwcyBGmM/VyloVHHHD9I/AAAAAAAAQcA/YpCcNEZ55GIGsruBdb9MrMUByG0Y1Z4sgCKgB/s1600/frayed%2Bedge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pH_HwcyBGmM/VyloVHHHD9I/AAAAAAAAQcA/YpCcNEZ55GIGsruBdb9MrMUByG0Y1Z4sgCKgB/s640/frayed%2Bedge.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<ol>
<li> shows how close I have to stitch to the edge to fit the design in.</li>
<li>shows how badly it frays and I can't get those edges into a embroidery frame...no matter how small.</li>
<li>top and bottom is a good measurement but the sides are barely cut to the size the designer suggests <i>after </i>stitching.</li>
</ol>
I knew I was going to be faced with these problems again and the issues start right from the moment I tape the fabric down onto the light box. I thought I had some sort of webbing tape that I could iron on to stop the fraying.....when I was looking for it, I found my box of abandoned cross stitch pieces...sometime last century, I used to make small gifts and cards...these didn't make it. The reason I am telling you this is because one of the pieces still had masking tape on the edges which I used once when I was without a sewing machine. It was an <b>Aha!</b> moment for me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LN69m8T1vYQ/VyloVOxMQdI/AAAAAAAAQcA/YcDf0DsG5ec98_QQ-45WH67JjHfhicgMgCKgB/s1600/index.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LN69m8T1vYQ/VyloVOxMQdI/AAAAAAAAQcA/YcDf0DsG5ec98_QQ-45WH67JjHfhicgMgCKgB/s640/index.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, I know many of you use your overlocker to stop fraying. I don't have an overlocker but I have used other methods. Sometimes, sort of successful and sometimes not at all.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fXuT2yjonqU/VyloTuTSkUI/AAAAAAAAQcA/Pl8j5FsMvFQle9efKHvD2b5QFFtiwu80wCKgB/s1600/fray%2Bstop%2Bmethods.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fXuT2yjonqU/VyloTuTSkUI/AAAAAAAAQcA/Pl8j5FsMvFQle9efKHvD2b5QFFtiwu80wCKgB/s640/fray%2Bstop%2Bmethods.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<ol>
<li>Fray Stop is a product I have used before and it works adequately but it is messy to apply, you have to wait for it to dry and right when I needed it, my half bottle had dried up!</li>
<li>No overlocker, no problem if I have a sewing machine....or so I thought! First I tried zig-zagging close to the edge...what a mess and it somehow managed to gather the edge of the fabric too.....so I tried a straight stitch like I used to with my Aida fabric....no good! It had to be close to the edge which left my fabric misshapen.</li>
<li>I gave the masking tape ago and <i><b>Voila!</b></i> It worked a treat.</li>
</ol>
Here's how I did it... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PztLqWGN1aE/VyloVQpa4CI/AAAAAAAAQcA/uYpGV4SXEI4PG2JsmgDPLlHb8UJMll6twCKgB/s1600/nofray%2Bedge%2Bcollage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PztLqWGN1aE/VyloVQpa4CI/AAAAAAAAQcA/uYpGV4SXEI4PG2JsmgDPLlHb8UJMll6twCKgB/s640/nofray%2Bedge%2Bcollage.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<ol>
<li> I used what I had and my masking tape roll is just over 1" thick. I cut a strip just longer than the long side of my piece of fabric.</li>
<li>I carefully stuck it down the length...covering about a 1/4" of the edge. Pressing the tape well onto the fabric and the cutting board to avoid slippage.</li>
<li>Then I trimmed the masking tape right up to the edge of the fabric with a ruler and rotary cutter. Carefully pull both up and repeat steps 2 -3 on all sides....this way I only used one strip of the masking tape.</li>
<li>I had cut the tape longer than the fabric and I folded the excess to the back.</li>
</ol>
I found it gave the edges a lot of support as well as stopping the fray when I taped it onto the light box. It was easier to tape down and keep taut while I traced. I am not worried about it being there when I finish stitching as I have to cut it down by at least 1/4" anyway. Here is a picture of how it looked after the tracing was complete.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QGaWiHhaddc/VyloWBaU6zI/AAAAAAAAQcA/OQtmQxCwHtAlqcOD3JfB98vufGlAdmWtgCKgB/s1600/teddy%2Bblock%2B7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QGaWiHhaddc/VyloWBaU6zI/AAAAAAAAQcA/OQtmQxCwHtAlqcOD3JfB98vufGlAdmWtgCKgB/s640/teddy%2Bblock%2B7.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
No Fray! See that grey arrow between the 13 & 15" inch mark. It is not fraying that it is pointing to but rather the whisperweft that I iron onto the back of all my embroidery pieces before stitching. Here is a close up to prove it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Eqxe1mibjk0/VyloTGH2FnI/AAAAAAAAQcA/aPd3iZiy4ooKUonLDjg_yzaasLNFb61EgCKgB/s1600/DSC07981.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Eqxe1mibjk0/VyloTGH2FnI/AAAAAAAAQcA/aPd3iZiy4ooKUonLDjg_yzaasLNFb61EgCKgB/s640/DSC07981.JPG" width="446" /></a></div>
<br />
I was so excited by my newfound old discovery....that I traced all 4 of my BOMs waiting in the sidelines....no excuses now! I will let you know how it holds up after it has spent time in the embroidery frame.<br />
<br />
p.s....I never did find that webbing tape!<br />

I have been busily stitching on block 8 of <b><i>Flowerville </i></b>and although it doesn't seem like I have done as much as last week....I reckon it will be finished in a couple of nights and I can give all my attention to <i><b>A Country Tea Party</b></i> until the final block 9 arrives in the mail.<br />

On Friday, it was agreed that I was needed on the farm with getting a certain cow to visit a bull and wouldn't make it to my sewing group. As it turned out, said cow did not appear ready to visit the bull so I headed off to join the <a href="http://cathquilts.blogspot.com.au/2016/04/design-board-monday-29-stitching-at.html" target="_blank">Post Office sewing group</a>. A lucky move, as it turns out because Tanya, who owns the Post Office, was sorting through her studio and had a huge bag of these vintage linens which she was wanting to sell....I managed to pick up 7 pieces for $25. <br />

Oh...and if you were wondering if the cow....Bessie, ever made it over the road to see Glenn...well the answer is no but that doesn't mean I was off the hook....Pippa was on heat this morning and bellowing very loudly so we walked her over...It was a much easier task than when we took Anna over last month. It was such a treat having Julia (from my Apatchy Quilting group in Brisbane) and her hubby call in for a visit. After a cuppa and homemade blueberry muffins, we went for a walk to show them our property. Rosie and the girls were very curious with the new faces and trailed behind us....probably hoping for a snack of apples...up to the back paddock where they decided to stay and munch on some grass while we took the forest walk back to the house. Later, I made my farmer his own apple galette for dessert.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n3P2ZOM6kUs/Vx1yI5InMYI/AAAAAAAAQWk/ecJ2sj8DQIASK7y5MAp9XptiAlXiCjSMwCLcB/s1600/index.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="446" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n3P2ZOM6kUs/Vx1yI5InMYI/AAAAAAAAQWk/ecJ2sj8DQIASK7y5MAp9XptiAlXiCjSMwCLcB/s640/index.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Because of all that I only got as far as printing off the pattern for <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/embroidery/hand-embroidery/stitchery-club---april-2016---6-patterns/202177" target="_blank">Jenny's design</a> and I will get it ready for stitching when the next <a href="http://stitch-indays.com/about-this-blog/" target="_blank">Stitch In Days</a> linky is up again in two weeks time.<br />
<br />
All stitching time was not lost though....I did get alot done on <b><i>Flowerville</i></b> throughout the last week...finishing block 6 - The Coffee Shop.<br />

I still don't have my camera sorted out so you will have to make do with smart phone pics. Anyway, with block 6 completed, I got started on block 7 - The Gypsy Caravan - on Saturday evening and look how much I have stitched already.<br />

I have the ones I need now so lets get on with the Link Party!<br />
<br />
I have two finishes this week.....<br />
<br />
<b>Flowerville - Block 5</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IMuZfqEbhMg/VxRdTOO5nII/AAAAAAAAQVA/9RDGSQuZSlw8W-69n0L0UZDRX01Ve_-xQCKgB/s1600/13051515_10208400039132700_8162170653962111960_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="464" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IMuZfqEbhMg/VxRdTOO5nII/AAAAAAAAQVA/9RDGSQuZSlw8W-69n0L0UZDRX01Ve_-xQCKgB/s640/13051515_10208400039132700_8162170653962111960_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I loved this block, although, I think I say that every time I finish one. I have decided to stick with my Flowerville stitching for now (as far as BOMs go) until I have caught up.....mainly because it is already printed on the fabric which is easy to get it ready for stitching. Block 6 - The Coffee Shop is already on the frame. How do you like my African Violets?? and are they out of fashion? I struggled to find them at the Nurseries hereabouts. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-c_PWnKkv_3A/VxRdTz5dE7I/AAAAAAAAQVA/I0q3Njttn8YbqjHQA_1l9ampzr_7bx7mgCKgB/s1600/block5FV.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="376" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-c_PWnKkv_3A/VxRdTz5dE7I/AAAAAAAAQVA/I0q3Njttn8YbqjHQA_1l9ampzr_7bx7mgCKgB/s640/block5FV.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Crochet Shell Stitch Blanket</b><br />
When I last posted about this blanket a couple of weeks ago, I was despairing because I struggled to find the same colour blue for the entire blanket........and then.......I popped into the "Reject Shop" and lo and behold, I spotted a ball of the very yarn I needed on the shelf (believe me, it wasn't there the week before!) When I took it to the counter to pay, I asked the young girl where the next nearest store was and found it was not too far away. As it turns out, my farmer wanted to go shopping at a centre very close to the 2nd store and he offered to take me there after. What a great idea....I found two more balls as well as the white container that my African Violets are in......and my farmer pulled out his wallet and paid for the lot! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ebAk6xIMnsc/VxRdUrTiHwI/AAAAAAAAQVA/TvTvDkxBx9sDK4UR8UaQJBovXM502nJkwCKgB/s1600/crochet%2Bblanket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="376" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ebAk6xIMnsc/VxRdUrTiHwI/AAAAAAAAQVA/TvTvDkxBx9sDK4UR8UaQJBovXM502nJkwCKgB/s640/crochet%2Bblanket.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
When we got home, I pulled out 6 rows of the beige and 12 rows of the [other] blue so I could do it all the way I originally wanted.......well worth it! I am really happy with how it turned out.<br />
<br />
As well as Flowerville Block 6, I am also going to trace a pattern from Jenny Elefantz latest Stitchery Club installment. I will work on it on Friday night, 22/4, and link up Saturday for <a href="http://stitch-indays.com/about-this-blog/" target="_blank">Stitch In Days</a>. If you are working on a Jenny Elefantz design.....why not join in!<br />

What is it about the weeks just racing by at the moment. Before I can seem to take a breath, we are back to Monday again and I am reading last weeks link ups and writing a new post. Well, I have been busy.....not so much sewing....but out and about a bit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i41_cVJqlC0/VwrrDzIjTVI/AAAAAAAAQNA/JCtwl-3GHEUr_xoODqBg0Wgj2F10e-yHw/s1600/DSC07789.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i41_cVJqlC0/VwrrDzIjTVI/AAAAAAAAQNA/JCtwl-3GHEUr_xoODqBg0Wgj2F10e-yHw/s640/DSC07789.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
On Friday, I joined up with a new sewing group in Hobart. We meet up at an old building which was once the local Post Office.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HeCKXW-WcAw/VwrrIfPukqI/AAAAAAAAQM4/7poNY0yYFD4AiWR8Jk22Z_JVigINuGy1w/s1600/DSC07799.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HeCKXW-WcAw/VwrrIfPukqI/AAAAAAAAQM4/7poNY0yYFD4AiWR8Jk22Z_JVigINuGy1w/s640/DSC07799.JPG" width="500" /></a></div>
<br />
A very creative woman bought the building last year and has done wonders with it.... the rooms have all been beautifully revamped....keeping all the original rooms with their features and adding some lovely new 'old' ones, like these vintage chandeliers in every room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p3a4zutqqoc/VwrrEICspZI/AAAAAAAAQNA/EJnNU7c1qEsFt47XzuMhbc9xk15KKyShA/s1600/DSC07794.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p3a4zutqqoc/VwrrEICspZI/AAAAAAAAQNA/EJnNU7c1qEsFt47XzuMhbc9xk15KKyShA/s640/DSC07794.JPG" width="576" /></a></div>
<br />
Each room is dedicated to particular artists and their wares are on display and for sale while the rooms all have tables and chairs and are for hire to groups to hold meetings from bookclubs to our own sewing group.<br />

Now I know that there are a lot of you out there who just love Jenny Elefantz stitchery designs, you might even be in her stitchery club....I am. I have rather a large collection of JE stitcheries which I am yet to start, including this find in a magazine (front cover!) ....OK, I have my hands full with a few BOM's atm....but now I have no further excuse.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jg53C24qYvc/VwHKM5h0A2I/AAAAAAAAQHQ/aWvdXMVhiYcAX1U8j2Gkdtz-LH9FMG8-Q/s1600/DSC06828.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jg53C24qYvc/VwHKM5h0A2I/AAAAAAAAQHQ/aWvdXMVhiYcAX1U8j2Gkdtz-LH9FMG8-Q/s640/DSC06828.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Why? </b>Because there is a <b>NEW</b> <b>Stitchery Linky</b> dedicated to Jenny's Designs. The<b> <a href="http://stitch-indays.com/about-this-blog/" target="_blank">Stitch-In Linky</a></b> has been created by Susan from CQ4Fun, an idea she shared with me last year after a comment I left on her post. I am so pleased for Susan to have this idea off the ground and I hope that you will pop over on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month to link up your "Jenny Designs".<br />

*please forward any questions to<b> <a href="http://stitch-indays.com/" target="_blank">Susan</a></b>....not Jenny, as she does not play a contributory part, although she does endorse the linky.<br />

Here's what I worked on this week</h2>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WleL6w05KXg/VwHO7tXiXhI/AAAAAAAAQH8/2OCZHCXQbJIqXryd5x-4T9sIjxqgUxwqg/s1600/look-here.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WleL6w05KXg/VwHO7tXiXhI/AAAAAAAAQH8/2OCZHCXQbJIqXryd5x-4T9sIjxqgUxwqg/s1600/look-here.gif" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #351c75;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Nearly there.....keep scrolling</b></span></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I ran out of that wonderfully coloured yarn so had to source something similar....there was only one ball of it left at the original outlet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oUosqAItBkY/VwHKMigXXXI/AAAAAAAAQHg/R4yQuzF7FEsv1qIcffYaD5GCPlaay-Dvw/s1600/DSC07774.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oUosqAItBkY/VwHKMigXXXI/AAAAAAAAQHg/R4yQuzF7FEsv1qIcffYaD5GCPlaay-Dvw/s640/DSC07774.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I searched everywhere to find a similar weight, ply and chunkiness of yarn and eventually ended up at Big W....an unlikely spot but I remembered that they do sell a limited selection of yarn and "VOILA"....I found a few choices of colour. I went with this blue variation.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TLoeQzzNoyM/VwHKOdieDWI/AAAAAAAAQHg/jytI6F1bOYAsfbexUDVR9JW9ZuFSf376w/s1600/DSC07775.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TLoeQzzNoyM/VwHKOdieDWI/AAAAAAAAQHg/jytI6F1bOYAsfbexUDVR9JW9ZuFSf376w/s640/DSC07775.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I does give the blanket a dirty appearance rather than the fresh look that I was going for but I am going to add another colourway into the mix and see what happens.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TcKByve31DQ/Vvcq_eDkENI/AAAAAAAAQAw/ra7SH849ITAZR5dQpwK4Vizz-6c566hBA/s1600/Easter%2Bgreetings%2B16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="466" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TcKByve31DQ/Vvcq_eDkENI/AAAAAAAAQAw/ra7SH849ITAZR5dQpwK4Vizz-6c566hBA/s640/Easter%2Bgreetings%2B16.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I mentioned in my last post, on Friday, that I had started a new crochet project so maybe it is time to share it. I bought some chunky wool a couple of weeks ago with the intention of crocheting a snuggle blanket for myself this Winter. When I got it home, I realised that I needed a bigger crochet hook than any I had in my collection. No problem....next time I went into town, it would be on my shopping list........mmmm...now I did pick up a bigger hook and I also happened to walk past a display of yarns...and what do you know?....a couple of them jumped into my basket as well!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-za4ipKWEMak/VvcqZ5qUEFI/AAAAAAAAQAo/IvWO4DjzXQYbTzTR9wecPlua66NExXhTQ/s1600/DSC07701.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="444" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-za4ipKWEMak/VvcqZ5qUEFI/AAAAAAAAQAo/IvWO4DjzXQYbTzTR9wecPlua66NExXhTQ/s640/DSC07701.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I have used them and started on a different pattern than I had planned for the first chunky wool (it's not as chunky) and I have also discovered something.....I am much more suited to crocheting in a continuous row by row rather than squares that get joined together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PqgIMyRHkv8/VvcUMXSFzMI/AAAAAAAAQAQ/XmUf5tCWXZI5cdwbgboZiQBhjj3heM5bA/s1600/DSC07689.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PqgIMyRHkv8/VvcUMXSFzMI/AAAAAAAAQAQ/XmUf5tCWXZI5cdwbgboZiQBhjj3heM5bA/s640/DSC07689.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I started this on Friday evening and just can't put it down, even though my arm aches and my fingers feel battered.....I have successfully changed colour and love how the pattern is coming along. <a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/2016/02/easy-crochet-shell-stitch-blanket-pattern/" target="_blank">HERE </a>is the pattern that I am using. By the time I got to rows 7 & 8 I didn't need to see the pattern anymore as it is imprinted to my brain. I think this is certainly one I can manage to finish!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xl7-wkcxxIc/VvcxI05qvVI/AAAAAAAAQBA/IvTHe5gdaQ0NKdqNiJHTzvlL0M6NSI_lg/s1600/crochet%2Bcollage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="376" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xl7-wkcxxIc/VvcxI05qvVI/AAAAAAAAQBA/IvTHe5gdaQ0NKdqNiJHTzvlL0M6NSI_lg/s640/crochet%2Bcollage.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
With the crochet being high on my agenda this week.....I have not done very much stitching. I finished block 4 of Flowerville and have started on Block 5.<br />

I just loved it and...well...who doesn't love Colin Firth?!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">with a little bit of crimping I reckon I could of pulled off playing Colin's leading lady! No?</td></tr>

One scene in the film depicts the young Princesses, Elizabeth and Margaret, with a collection of toy ponies and it got me thinking about my recent visit to Windsor Castle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JyU5gxg-sQo/VvX1i6HI_XI/AAAAAAAAP9Y/GSv-4pr5AxgNXBJ8OwXp_zY0jg-FGPdHg/s1600/DSC07565.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JyU5gxg-sQo/VvX1i6HI_XI/AAAAAAAAP9Y/GSv-4pr5AxgNXBJ8OwXp_zY0jg-FGPdHg/s640/DSC07565.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I have been lucky enough to visit Windsor Castle once or twice in my lifetime...the first time was many years ago and I may have been in my early teens. I remember viewing Queen Mary's Dolls House and being absolutely fascinated by it. The second time I visited the castle was in August 2013 with my son Red, but we were on a time restricted bus tour and only went inside the State Rooms....which are spectacular btw!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uZFj-k0FdsE/VvX2aso9wDI/AAAAAAAAP9c/TgzIBhqJz24Jx10eKkpCXL7Q_Tdlin8JA/s1600/DSC07567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uZFj-k0FdsE/VvX2aso9wDI/AAAAAAAAP9c/TgzIBhqJz24Jx10eKkpCXL7Q_Tdlin8JA/s640/DSC07567.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I really wanted to see that Doll's House again so when Miss M and I were visiting London this year, I suggested we head to Windsor and take a tour through the Castle. No photography is allowed inside the castle exhibitions so I have had to borrow a few from the internet....I am also including an awesome link to a site that lets you virtually explore the Doll House for yourself.....<a href="https://www.royalcollection.org.uk/queenmarysdollshouse/house.html" target="_blank">Explore Queen Mary's Dollhouse</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The Queen Mary who the Doll House was designed for is, of course, Queen Elizabeth's Grandmother and consort to King George V. The house was made for her in 1924 and since she was born in 1867, I am assuming it was for display purposes only. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-soEgyco38FI/VvX6aIEGY4I/AAAAAAAAP98/QSwje0SmfpcGb9GAJZGRgUflfLefMRo8A/s1600/article-2208252-1531B238000005DC-66_306x423.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-soEgyco38FI/VvX6aIEGY4I/AAAAAAAAP98/QSwje0SmfpcGb9GAJZGRgUflfLefMRo8A/s640/article-2208252-1531B238000005DC-66_306x423.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Here is what you see when you enter the exhibition....it is very dimly light so you have to adjust your eyesight before exploring. The Dollhouse is encased in glass and you can only go one way around it and unable to go around for a second look (unless you enter again from the beginning). I so wanted to just stand and look at every little detail but, despite it being the 'slow season', there were other people waiting for their turn. It is quite amazing and the detail is just mind blowing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eiatH90nnYg/VvX6aJRBiMI/AAAAAAAAP9s/2vcaVWl4jUMIln08iafWqVoZ9rFe6xj9g/s1600/exterior%2Bof%2Bqueen%2Bmary%2527s%2Bdoll%2527s%2Bhouse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eiatH90nnYg/VvX6aJRBiMI/AAAAAAAAP9s/2vcaVWl4jUMIln08iafWqVoZ9rFe6xj9g/s1600/exterior%2Bof%2Bqueen%2Bmary%2527s%2Bdoll%2527s%2Bhouse.jpg" /></a></div>
The next part of the exhibition is a beautiful pair of dolls with the most enviable wardrobe you have ever seen. The detail in the clothes, shoes, gloves and accessories are beautifully created. The dolls belonged to the Queen and her sister, Princess Margaret when they were young girls. I wonder though...did they ever get to play with them...or where they just for display too.<br />

<br />
This is what the exhibition looks like at Windsor Castle....there is no credit line for who took these photo's....I guess they may not want anyone to know they disobeyed the rules.<br />
<br />
<i>A couple of things I learnt from the movie: a) A question which I have often wondered: Why was Prince Albert "Bertie" known as King George VI? It turns out 'Albert' was too Germanic and at the time England was on the verge of war with Germany so he took his deceased father's name...his family still called him Bertie.</i><br />
<i>Guy Pearce does a really good job at putting on an upper crust English Accent...a few times I had to wonder if it really was him!</i><br />

<ol>
<li>The weather has cooled significantly,</li>
<li>The leaves on the Poplar tree in the front yard are turning yellow,</li>
<li>The Scarlet Robins have made an appearance, </li>
<li>Snuggly balls of yarn are turning up....everywhere I shop.</li>
</ol>

<br />
I was in Hobart during the week for a very important date....it was my birthday and my nearest and deartest took me to the movies to see Maggie Smith in "The Lady in the Van"....in Gold Class, no less! Afterwards, on our way back to the car, I wanted to drop into the 'Reject Shop' (for those not in the know, it is a $1 shop) to buy some more micro-fibre cloths to back some bibs. While there I noticed the gigantic balls of chunky yarn and without thinking too long, I grabbed a few different colours.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CG7DgGXFvLw/Vu8zN4JlEVI/AAAAAAAAP4U/4UbN43XZ6KkNGh3xk2xzbDhg0hudW-pHQ/s1600/chunky%2Byarn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="380" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CG7DgGXFvLw/Vu8zN4JlEVI/AAAAAAAAP4U/4UbN43XZ6KkNGh3xk2xzbDhg0hudW-pHQ/s640/chunky%2Byarn.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"></span>
I really would of loved to start crocheting a blanket I have pinned, but alas, I didn't have the right size crochet needle! There is always something, isn't there? I also bought some cuddly soft balls of chenille baby yarn but trying it out, it's obvious I will have to use knitting needles for that project as the crochet stitches are too hard to see.<br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"></span>
In the meantime, I will have to stick to my stitching! I have achieved quite a bit while watching "Vikings" S3.....I do have to keep stopping to read subtitles!<br />

That was the primary reason I thought it would be a good chance to visit East Sussex. Until I researched 1066 Country, I had no idea that the battle was not in a field just outside Hastings, instead, it is in a small town of Battle which is about 6 miles (almost 10km's) outside of Hastings. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CiR3hl_BI44/VuzdkUu2i9I/AAAAAAAAP3A/IYNtqiMVOR8DhS6MyPhXAiOWKQCrpQ9iA/s1600/DSC07328.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="338" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CiR3hl_BI44/VuzdkUu2i9I/AAAAAAAAP3A/IYNtqiMVOR8DhS6MyPhXAiOWKQCrpQ9iA/s640/DSC07328.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
When William was victorious on the battlefield, he was requisitioned by the Pope, to build an Abbey on the site of the battle as a memorial to all the bloodshed. It is thought that the high alter was placed on the very spot that King Harold fell. The small town of Battle grew around the Abbey and is in itself a lovely place to visit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KDEWkZJQXfQ/VuzdjxMhSmI/AAAAAAAAP3A/-V5G2ETohAoOcFiSqb9EUMNtyt-zmW2xw/s1600/DSC07324.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KDEWkZJQXfQ/VuzdjxMhSmI/AAAAAAAAP3A/-V5G2ETohAoOcFiSqb9EUMNtyt-zmW2xw/s640/DSC07324.JPG" width="524" /></a></div>
<br />
Not much is left from the original structure and the current gatehouse, that dominates the town, was built in the 14th century. The Abbey was closed while we were around but I was still determined to visit the battleground.....if possible. Our first exploration took us along the High Street while following the Abbey wall.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4XKu7RniBZw/VuzdkzhjE7I/AAAAAAAAP3A/0QjgfP0hy-MmDNLyI9gHqnW2QrnOeOJtA/s1600/DSC07327.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4XKu7RniBZw/VuzdkzhjE7I/AAAAAAAAP3A/0QjgfP0hy-MmDNLyI9gHqnW2QrnOeOJtA/s640/DSC07327.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
We found a town map a little further along the road just as it started to rain. A quick look at the map showed it was quite a hike around the site of the Abbey to find the battlefield so we decided to pick another route the following morning....weather permitting!<br />

</div>
And so, after spending the night in Battle, we woke up to a very frosty morning and set out to find the Battlefield. We headed towards a cross country path that leads to Pevensey and followed the path around the Abbey grounds.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HE-aviSxfaQ/Vu0fqxhmmUI/AAAAAAAAP3o/Gx825Ub3ZEYr9alymUvAMcrMePvBnkAFg/s1600/road%2Bmarker.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HE-aviSxfaQ/Vu0fqxhmmUI/AAAAAAAAP3o/Gx825Ub3ZEYr9alymUvAMcrMePvBnkAFg/s320/road%2Bmarker.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The path was very muddy and slippery and probably only suited to gum boots but since we didn't have any, we trod very carefully. The lovely scenery and crisp, fresh air made it all worthwhile.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kmiXDlJq14I/VuzdsjUZjFI/AAAAAAAAP3E/HgogXOefKy8cg5CuR8UfURZJXwKj5eRxg/s1600/DSC07340.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kmiXDlJq14I/VuzdsjUZjFI/AAAAAAAAP3E/HgogXOefKy8cg5CuR8UfURZJXwKj5eRxg/s640/DSC07340.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sTI6YvKrDoI/Vuzdt3Mpe3I/AAAAAAAAP3E/L169xfy65MYfC5qtguozmy3eCZOmmOOYw/s1600/DSC07342.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sTI6YvKrDoI/Vuzdt3Mpe3I/AAAAAAAAP3E/L169xfy65MYfC5qtguozmy3eCZOmmOOYw/s640/DSC07342.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wjxlTFNHoDk/VuzdqxJY7NI/AAAAAAAAP3E/gKX4YY2LrAw0F9GiF-2G1DetBG_R8eAuA/s1600/DSC07339.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wjxlTFNHoDk/VuzdqxJY7NI/AAAAAAAAP3E/gKX4YY2LrAw0F9GiF-2G1DetBG_R8eAuA/s640/DSC07339.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
And then we came across this big open field and I estimated that we were approximately just above the knight's standard in the map above.......so this had to be the Hastings Battlefield!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TZeeqTBmTr8/VuzdnSoKCbI/AAAAAAAAP3E/m6IKBCmXKcIIgkAIwrtWI_mDpBMPRD1mg/s1600/DSC07336.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TZeeqTBmTr8/VuzdnSoKCbI/AAAAAAAAP3E/m6IKBCmXKcIIgkAIwrtWI_mDpBMPRD1mg/s640/DSC07336.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Or not!....it looks right if I compare with the map above but if I compare our movements to Google Maps, it looks like we were way off course.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X6sfqw5Vx0w/VuzdoZctfnI/AAAAAAAAP3E/GjKmSVCwKX42sBTsa7yCH5HwdFYkXuU6w/s1600/DSC07337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X6sfqw5Vx0w/VuzdoZctfnI/AAAAAAAAP3E/GjKmSVCwKX42sBTsa7yCH5HwdFYkXuU6w/s640/DSC07337.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Oh well! we had a lovely country walk, took some lovely photos and all in all our stay in Battle was very enjoyable....there are some lovely shops and places to eat....we also enjoyed our stay at The George Hotel, a 300 year old former coaching Inn, right on the High Street.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WoZd8u_GJ54/Vuzdlw74gcI/AAAAAAAAP3A/m47OPTt6hJoqp78__H0rAG_eL1VocigTw/s1600/DSC07329.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WoZd8u_GJ54/Vuzdlw74gcI/AAAAAAAAP3A/m47OPTt6hJoqp78__H0rAG_eL1VocigTw/s640/DSC07329.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
I took this photo straight out from our bedroom window.<br />

It is a public holiday here in Tasmania so I decided to tidy up my <i>potting area</i>....and
then got into the zone and decided to 'move it' to a more suitable
spot. Somewhere easier to store my pots, tools, bulbs, seeds and potting
mix.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

By
the time I had sorted all this out, I came in and was amazed that it
was after 2pm already...where does time go when you are having fun?!<br />
<br />
On
the sewing scene....I have bought some little velcro dots so I can make
some more baby bibs for young PJ....I even got as far as cutting out
the fabric but then got sidetracked on a blog that I was writing on <a href="http://cathathome.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Cath@Home</a>. Here is the lil' man on his quilt I made him sporting <a href="http://cathquilts.blogspot.com.au/2016/02/design-board-monday-23-home-again.html" target="_blank">the bib </a>I
already made. Believe me, he is so adorable with a sweet smile that
lights up his face and creates dimples next to his mouth, but he is not
my baby to share publicly so I have had to blur parts of it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z2T9ErbACiA/VuYu3jouzeI/AAAAAAAAPzA/5pSamSWnVvA-lCvillAnXo5ps2Ej6Dc3Q/s1600/12799125_10153948211954675_3906678077250236824_n.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z2T9ErbACiA/VuYu3jouzeI/AAAAAAAAPzA/5pSamSWnVvA-lCvillAnXo5ps2Ej6Dc3Q/s640/12799125_10153948211954675_3906678077250236824_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Here
are the other fabrics I am going to use.....and the velcro dots....I
just had to fb him a message (which his mummy read out to him) with this
picture to let him know I was onto it.<br />

I don't think I will be appliqueing on them like the fox one so they should be done in a day.<br />
<br />
<br />
I have also been stitching my Flowerville Block<br />
